Nightfall Wilderness Camp

RAINFOREST GLAMPING EXPERIENCE

nightfall wilderness tent interior
FEATURES

Each 62m2 tent hand-built, with an artisan’s touch. The tent’s wire-brushed old timber floor feels silky underfoot; the hand-carved stone basin smooth and cool; the rain-head shower and organic bedding indulgent; and the woollen throw blankets homely, as you sample the complimentary champagne and gourmet platter left in your fridge.

Nightfall’s three guest tents are well-spaced to ensure privacy and delicately positioned to minimise impact on the camp’s sensitive Australian wilderness surrounds. Bathing can be fully open to the outside and the toilets flush for comfort.

Nightfall’s glamping experience allows for a fully-catered escape, with fire-cooked organic cuisine. You can also self-cater. Each tent has a micro-camp-kitchen and a private BBQ.

ENVIRONMENT

From the Owners:

Eco-tourism at nightfall camp is about so much more than just turning off the lights and re-using towels. Our Queensland eco-accommodation‘s whole reason-for-being is to create a lifestyle which treads gently, preserving and enhancing this ancient wilderness, while sharing the wonders of the Scenic Rim’s Lost World.

Nightfall camp’s commitment to environmental, economic and social sustainability is best explained through conscious planning and an elimination of all that is not essential (some ‘luxuries’ are essential).
It’s a genuinely-sustainable carbon-neutral lifestyle we love to share. If you’re interested in the sustainable life, you can forage with us for food in the wild, the herb and the vegetable gardens; sample locavore-inspired organic cuisine; and learn about nightfall’s leanomic environmental practices including on-site waste-water treatment and waste minimisation through reduction, re-use, recycling and recovery with composting.
nightfall camp’s electricity is generated by a 5KW grid-connect solar-power system. Local bio-sequestration tree-plantings are planned to offset the camp’s residual carbon footprint. Conservation also extends to the progressive restoration and rehabilitation of damaged parts of our 257 acre site, as well as monitoring of Christmas Creek and protected species including the glossy-black cockatoos which frequent our Lamington valley. We’re also registered wildlife carers – if you visit the camp now, you may meet Lillypilly, a wallaby we raised from hairless joey stage.
nightfall camp is in the process of securing internationally recognised “Advanced-Eco-Tourism Certification”, awarded by Eco-Tourism Australia. Accreditation recognises leading and innovative ecotourism products, which provide an opportunity to learn about the environment with an operator that uses resources wisely, contributes to the conservation of the environment and helps local communities. We believe eco-accreditation also helps assure visitors we’re serious about walking-the-talk and happy to be held accountable through audits.
nightfall camp aims to become a role-model for high-quality environmentally sustainable tourism in Australia – rare luxury eco accommodation which gives back to its environment and does not have a carbon footprint.

As a guest, immersed in nightfall’s World Heritage setting, it’s hard to not be curious about the workings of this incredible ecosystem. Our passion is to provide those high-quality encounters with nature — from the ‘everyday’ sightings of wallabies, parrots and blue-eyed dew fish to the rare plants and wildlife which share nightfall’s rich conservation protected landscape and the cultural history which links humans to this region.

ACTIVITIES

At Nightfall, you’ll find rapids with private natural spa-pools, lazy hammocks, evenings under the stars beside the campfire and the decadent privacy of your tent accommodation.

Think of days where you can do as much or as little as you like … and, even before you’re hungry, sumptuous meals and cold drinks appear, as if by magic.   For some the ideal is to find a relaxing spot, in the forest or beside the creek, to read, daydream or spend tender moments with a loved one.

The ultimate indulgence: a massage by the creek or in the forest. No pre-recorded sounds here, just the real thing: birds, wind in the trees and the backdrop of the tumbling creek.

For those who crave adventure, energetic expeditions await. You can head into the tangled forest on a self-directed journey or choose a unique guided-walk through privately-held conservation land and Lamington National Park. Your local guide is an expert, eager to share a detailed knowledge of our Lost World history, culture, birds, wildlife and plants. Without formed tracks at this part of Lamington NP, nightfall’s guided-adventures give access to attractions beyond the reach of the average traveller. They are custom-designed to ensure you see our breathtaking Scenic Rim wilderness in a way which suits.

Nightfall Wilderness Camp

What we love…

Green Getaways followed the progress of owners Heidi and Steve Ross as they shared their experiences of building their stunning glamping retreat on their blog. Their passion and creative talents have shone through everything they have done to make Nightfall Wilderness Camp one of Great Getaway’s most popular stays.

Tell me more…

Nightfall Wilderness Camp is a secluded boutique hideaway beside the pristine headwaters of Christmas Creek and Queensland’s iconic world heritage Lamington National Park. Nightfall is a genuinely eco-sensitive retreat which gives back to the land which sustains it.

At Nightfall Wilderness Camp, you’ll encounter a seemingly undiscovered part of the world, with rich untouched Gondwanna rainforests and clear-mountain streams. Here, nightfall camp nestles beside the cool clear rapids of Christmas Creek, not far from where the water flows cleanly from the ‘wilderness end’ of Lamington National Park.

Nightfall camp is limited to only six travellers at any one time, ensuring privacy, intimacy and conviviality. Couples relish the seclusion of their private tents. Some also enjoy mixing with like-minded experiential travellers and sharing the tree-change lifestyle of nightfall’s hosts.

The camp sits on top of a vast mystical ancient geology – the tendrils of lava flows from nearby Mt Warning. The landscape is reminiscent of great tracts of south-east Queensland, pre-colonisation, sheltering rare flora and fauna and some of the world’s largest remaining tracts of Gondwana sub-tropical rainforest and a magical rim of mountains, known locally as the Scenic Rim.
