On arrival, you will be greeted by your host and chef, waiting on the beach to do the introductions and provide you with a brief overview. Your bags will be whisked off to your tent and you’ll join the other guests in the longhouse where your host and chef will chat to you about any specific dietary requirements and clarify any special requests.

From here you will be escorted to your own secluded tent to settle in and take in the view, the beach and the wonder that is Wilson Island. Sunset drinks at one of our beautiful island locations will follow.

Your tent is practically unnoticeable amongst the ancient Pisonia Forest but is luxuriously decked out with a king bed, wonderful eco linen and generous pillows.

To ensure minimal impact and disturbance of Wilson Island’s unique and fragile ecosystem, there is separate amenities building with 6 private spaces for guests to utilise which is centrally located to the eco-tents.

When staying with us on Wilson Island, all meals, drinks and snacks are included for the entirety of your stay.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything else in between is available throughout your stay. Remember, this is your holiday, your time to relax and your time to be waited on.

Sunset drinks are a must. We have hand-picked our award-winning spirit selection, including whiskies, gins and rums, from some of Queensland and Australia’s top distilleries. These premium Australian beverages are available any time, day or night.

We have teamed up with some of Australia’s top fresh produce suppliers; our aim, to showcase the exquisite native produce that Australia has to offer. We’re very pleased to say that every ingredient and beverage is Australian Sourced – perhaps with the exception of champagne!

Just like the reason you came to stay and relax, everything we do is simple, quality, beautiful and generous. It’s the little things – the attention to detail from the paired wine with dinner to a personally prepared picnic basket for breakfast, lunch or dinner – it’s all there for the asking.

Please note that Wilson Island has a strict policy regarding allergies. Limited dietary requirements can be accommodated but please speak with our team prior to making a reservation if you suffer from any allergies, to avoid any disappointment of your reservation being refused or cancelled. This policy is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests at what is a remote location.

Please note that Wilson Island is accessible by boat from Heron Island. The transfer between Wilson Island and Heron Island is included in the accommodation but guests will still need to make their way to Heron Island. The boat to Wilson Island departs Heron Island at 2.00 pm. The return transfer will depart Wilson Island at 10.00 am.

Heron Island is accessible by boat, seaplane and helicopter from Gladstone. The boat transfer will depart Gladstone for Heron Island at 09:30 daily, except Tuesdays and Thursdays. The return boat transfer will depart from Heron Island at 12:45 daily, except Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. The Heron Islander will not be operating on Christmas Day, Wednesday 25 December 2019. However will operate on Thursday 26 December 2019. The cost of the transfer on the Heron Islander is AUD 69 per adult one way (AUD 75 from 01 April 2020) and AUD 32 per child one way (AUD 38 from 01 April 2020). A coach service to from the Gladstone Airport is available and included in the boat transfer cost.

The shuttle coach will pick guests up from the airport at 08:00 and will arrive at the Marina approximately 10 minutes later. Guests are requested to inform the property in advance if they wish to make use of the shuttle service. Contact details can be found on the booking confirmation.

An Environmental Management Charge (EMC) of AUD 6.50 (AUD 7 from 01 April 2020) per person per day (for guests 5 years and older) to a maximum of AUD 19.50 (AUD 21 from 01 April 2020) per person per stay will be charged direct to guests. Price is subject to change.

Wilson Island is re-opening in November 2019.

ACTIVITIES

Wilson Island allows you to get away, recharge the batteries, and spend some quality time together but that doesn’t mean you have to do absolutely nothing.

Chef will pack you a picnic hamper for your own self-guided island stroll taking in all that Wilson has to offer. If you’d like to learn a little more about the history and importance of the island and the reef, just ask and we will happily provide a guided tour.

Our chef is also happy to share some of the secrets used to make the mouth watering meals you will enjoy throughout your holiday. Pull up a chair and chat as they prepare meals, ask questions, get involved – remember, this is your holiday – it’s all about you and we are here to make sure that you never forget your experience on Wilson Island.

There are a range of games and activities that can be organised for guests, with other guests or without. You can be a spectator or a participant – it doesn’t matter here. It’s all about you switching off, relaxing and, perhaps just a little bit of rediscovering!

As a Marine National Park, it is a ‘no touch, no take’ area and extractive activities, such as fishing or collecting, are not allowed without a permit. Guests come to Wilson Island to experience the unspoiled natural environment, the incredible marine life and the amazing native flora and fauna, which, thanks to these restrictions, is in abundance.

Power

Wilson Island is 100% solar and battery powered in order to generate a predominantly clean source of power and preserve the peace and quiet of this pristine area. Our communal dining area, the Longhouse, contains a 12V source for charging your devices for all the photo opportunities during your stay.

At Wilson Island, we are committed to using 100% Australian products, resources and food where possible. We have carefully selected and sourced everything on Wilson Island, from our Orana (meaning ‘welcome’ in the Indigenous Wiradjuri language) amenities, to our unique beverage selection, including international award-winning spirits and liqueurs, and Apani (derived from the Australian Indigenous word for ‘the water’) water to ensure we are providing a local, high quality and sustainable product for you to enjoy.

Organic & Eco-friendly

Where possible, we have utilised eco and organic materials. Our beds and linens are both 100% eco and organic bamboo and cotton. Be sure to keep an eye out for our use of recycled resources throughout Wilson Island, from our upcycled wine bottle water glasses, to the light fixtures, bar and furnishings.Even our mirror frames are made from Australian recycled timber.
We have used eco-friendly light fittings where possible and, very importantly, have installed turtle-friendly lighting to be used in the turtle laying and hatchling seasons.

Amenities

Our bathroom amenities are 100% biodegradable and made from native Australian plants and properties. We do ask guests to refrain from using their own bathroom products during their stay if they are not ecologically sustainable.

Single-use Plastics

You will not find any single-use plastics on Wilson Island. We do not use plastic straws and our beverages are all in recyclable glass bottles – even the labels on the juices we offer are made of a food-based product. We are very protective of our marine life here, so do avoid the use of any plastic wherever possible.

Water

Water is a precious commodity on Wilson Island. As we are unable to collect rain water, we are required to bring water in from the mainland, via Heron Island, as needed. We ask that guests be conscious of their water usage at all times.

Chemicals

We utilise environmentally friendly cleaning products throughout all areas of Wilson Island.
Our products do not contain any bleaches or other harsh chemicals used that could potentially harm the environment.

Covering just over five acres, Wilson Island boasts nine permanent Reef Safari Tents, offering seclusion in a setting of unrivalled natural beauty – playing host to just 18 guests at any one time. Guests can relax and rejuvenate in privacy and seclusion.

With no phones or television, the soundtrack for your getaway is the lapping of ocean waves, the rustle of the leaves in the breeze and the melody of neighbouring birds.
