We all know that the Australian bushfire crisis has had a devasating impact on tourism in the affected areas. Even when places reamain have survived untouched, visitors have cancelled bookings months ahead. So – this is a great opportunity for you to grab a bargain and do your bit to keep the local communities going strong.
The properties below tell their stories about the impact of the Australian bushfires on their tourism business. Many are offering special deals to encourage visitation. It is not often we can say that one of the best things we can all do to help is to have a holiday!
UPDATE 18 FEBRUARY, 2020: heavenly rain has fallen in the area below. Green shoots and green paddocks now welcome Green Getaways guests!

FROM THE OWNERS: “Pebbly Beach Escape has not gone unscathed from the recent Currowan Bushfire. We have been impacted in various ways, from slight property damage, loss of trade due to road closures and the associated clean up after the event. We are now ready to open the doors and welcome back guests and help our community get back on its’ feet.
As part of our recovery effort and to assist those who have lost everything in this terrible event we have established two fundraising initiatives called ‘Fire Breaks’. These ‘Fire Breaks’ will be 2 night stays with us here at Pebbly Beach Escape.
They’re designed to do just that, provide impacted families with a break from the issues resulting from loss due to the fires. This will provide valuable respite as these people face the challenges of rebuilding their homes and lives.
1. For every two nights we sell, for stays between the 24th of January and the 30th of June, we’ll donate a night to a fire affected family. These ‘fire breaks’ will be 2 night stays distributed by ‘Treading Lightly’ to those most in need. Please mention Green Getaways when booking.
2. If you are unable to come and stay, but would like to directly assist, you can donate a ‘fire break’ which will also be distributed by ‘Treading Lightly’.
We hope that these initiatives will help our business get back on track while offering valuable respite to families which have been directly affected by the fires.”

Self Contained Luxury Cottages
FROM THE OWNERS: “Our accommodation, fortunately, remains unscathed, pristine, and open for business even though the Hunter Valley was affected directly by the bushfire emergency in December. Unfortunately our bookings have however declined since then due to the ongoing situation around the country, and we are currently struggling to regain our momentum.
Any guest making a booking by 5pm 29th February to stay at ‘Somewhere Unique’ anytime in 2020, will receive an additional complimentary night.
As we have a minimum two-night policy, this offer is for a third-night free when booking any ‘Somewhere Unique’ two-night retreats or packages. If the guest books a three-night package, then a fourth-night will be given free.
To access this deal, when booking through the ‘BOOK DIRECT WTH OWNERS’ button below, guests will need to type ‘third night free Green Getaways’ or ‘fourth night free Green Getaways’ in the ‘Notes’ section and the additional night will be added when their booking is processed. ”

Genuine handcrafted Mongolian Yurt
FROM THE OWNERS: “We are luckier than most and we cancelled all our bookings for the safety and comfort of our Guests.
Geoff is in the CFA & has been out on the firetruck helping to contain these awful fires. After a quiet 2nd half of last year, we were already struggling & to have to cancel our bookings in what should be our peak season is a real blow.
We are grateful our beautiful King Valley is safe so far & are praying for rain to put these terrible fires out for good. We would love people to come & stay with us when it is safe to do so.”

Avalon River Retreat
Inland from Port Macquarie, NSW
FROM THE OWNERS: “2019 was brutal. We had to close down our beautiful accommodation over the peak spring and Christmas period because of the drought and then the fires.
Update Jan 27 : We have had wonderful, life giving, greening rain and the river is flowing once more. Avalon is restored to its peaceful oasis. We are ready to greet guests with open arms and hearts and let them experience the magic of rural Australia.”
FROM THE OWNERS: ” Our luxury accommodation at Ecopia Retreat has not been impacted, and our overall property is largely intact.
We have had a spot fire within a segment of the Eleanor River that runs through our property, but the unique Kangaroo Island bush and wildlife we have here is largely intact.
Any forward bookings to help build and support the Kangaroo Island community are very welcome.
