About Green Getaways Australia
Green Getaways offers a unique collection of sustainable accommodation and responsible travel experiences in Australia.
We search out those unique places where we know you would love to stay; all with high standards, passionate owners and of course, respect for the environment and responsible tourism as the key criteria.
By publishing the environmental actions in detail of each listing, rather than just a few icons, Green Getaways makes sure that every property on our site actually qualifies as a genuine eco-friendly property that’s engaged in sustainable practices and guests can read what they are.
Green Getaways’ bespoke collection of accommodation is not exclusive to one particular type of stay or budget. The selection encompasses 5 star hotels, motels, budget farm stays, tiny houses, treehouses, glamping, pods, farm stays, backpacker stays, cottages, luxe stays – even tipees and yurts.
From our Founder
Founder of Green Getaways, Amanda Lambert, believes tourism needn’t be a bad thing when managed properly. It can also be a force for good, preserving cultures, sharing diverse ways of living, educating travellers about the natural environment while providing prosperity, peace and security for local communities.
Having built and managed her own accommodation business in the Hunter Valley – one of the first to achieve eco-certification in the area – Amanda understands the challenges of running an accommodation business and the positive impact that environmental initiatives can make.
Amanda Lambert began working on a directory of accommodation in Australia over 10 years ago. She says: “I wanted to travel and stay in accommodation that had the same values as me, but there was nowhere to find them. At that time, eco-friendly accommodation wasn’t easy to find, apart from the nature based ecotourism properties certified with Ecotourism Australia.”
The directory started with only about 20 listings, from the trail blazing sustainable Alto Hotel in Melbourne to Paperbark Camp, the first glamping property in Australia and one of the first to achieve eco-certification. Now Green Getaways lists about 250 responsible accommodation options in Australia.
“Since the time that Green Getaways first started, I have been delighted to see the rise in the number of accommodation properties throughout Australia working towards sustainability in their operations”, says Amanda.
“I like to think that Green Getaways has been part of that change. We have promoted and supported responsible tourism, even when it wasn’t a ‘thing’. Now a focus on sustainable travel is everywhere – whether it is called slow travel, conscious travel or regenerative tourism. Personally, I don’t care what it is called – we just need people doing good things, rather than trashing this amazing world via tourism. We face uncertain times and the possibility that we may not be able to travel in the future, as we have in the past, is now more real as we deal with climate change.”
Amanda’s commitment to sustainability is important in every aspect of her own daily life, including a fully solar powered home, office and transport.

Our Values
RESPONSIBILITY
We support responsible tourism by promoting accommodation which provides facilities enabling guests to minimize energy use, conserve water, recycle and reduce waste.
SOCIAL VALUES
We believe that all of us have an ethical responsibility to treat all guests and staff, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation with dignity, with fair wages and respect for worker’s rights.
TRANSPARENCY
We do our very best to encourage the businesses that we deal with to be as open as possible about their environmental claims. We could all do better – there is no denying this fact. We don’t accept listings from properties unless they meet our basic criteria and are able to publicly display their environmental initiatives, enabling travellers to judge for themselves. Every property listed on our website publicly displays their environmental policy.
We do our best to maintain the accuracy of the information displayed on this site, but please let us know if there is an environmental issue with any of the properties listed.
