There ar4 about 10 km of mountain bike trail winding through the 100 acres of Kambarang – the home of Cycletrek. Some sections have been named and flows as below…
Kambarang is above the frost line and some mornings you can look down on a mist in the valley below while enjoying the colours of the sunrise turning the trees to orange and gold and bouncing off the clouds above.

THE ENVIRONMENT
- Kambarang has a National Trust WA conservation covenant on it with about a third of the property (17.5 hectares) set aside in perpetuity. This means it is unable to be cleared or the bushland harmed in any way (special provision has been made for the mountain bike trails).
- Stand alone solar power (not connected to the grid) at the cabin as well as the house and bike shop.
- Solar hot water, and a ‘wetback’ in the wood burning heater for winter water heating.
- All firewood is collected from the property.
- Water supply is rainwater (tanks) only
- The cabin is built from recycled jarrah (including windows and doors) and jarrah logs carefully chosen and fallen on the property. It is clad in corrugated iron which is recyclable at the end of its life. Interior paint is non-toxic Ecolour and timbers are tung oiled.
- Cleaning products are fragrance free and no air fresheners are used (there are some incense sticks provided in case you really want an artificial fragrance, but the bush smells are recommended!)
- Sheets and towels are 100% cotton, washed in fragrance free laundry liquid and sun/fresh air dried.
- Hand built mountain bike / walk trails (no machines used in the bushland)
The cabin operates on a very small 12 volt solar power system. It is very simple to understand and instructions are in the cabin. It can run some low wattage appliances, but not things like a hair dryer – in fact nothing that uses over 200 watts. It can run the lights, the TV, a small stereo, laptop and mobile phone chargers – but not for too long. The lights are 12 volt and connected directly to the batteries. The inverter needs to be switched on to run appliances.

Cycletrek is located at Kambarang, a 100 acre bush property which owners Barrie and Sherry discovered in 1993, while on a full moon ride with a bunch of other crazy people. Located just 2 hours from Perth or 15 minutes from Donnybrook, Kambarang is a world from anywhere.
Kambarang is an aboriginal word from the local Nyoongar language, which is name of the ‘season’ of October – November. Nyoongar culture has a close association and deep respect for the land. They have 6 seasons, and when you live in the south west bush for a while, you see that 6 seasons are more appropriate here than the European four. October to November – Kambarang – is the peak wildflower time, including the unusual and delightful Butterfly orchid (Caladenia Lobata).
Cycletrek Eco Accommodation is 8 km from the precious Preston Virgin forest, located in the Preston National Park, which has the famous Bibulmun Track walking trail passing through it. The Munda Biddi mountain bike trail passes through Donnybrook (20km from Kambarang) and the Mt Lennard trails are about 24km away.
The cabin is fully self contained, with hot water shower, double bed up in the loft (wake up in the tree top), a double sofa bed and single bed downstairs, plus a single trundle.
There is a gas fridge / freezer and gas stove with grill and oven. There’s also a wood heater for winter which keeps the cabin warm and cosy, as well as having the stovetop to cook a delicious slow cook soup or your dinner if you feel inclined, instead of using the gas stove. The fire also has a ‘wetback’ to heat the water in winter (solar hot water in summer).
Access to the loft is by ladder stair, so it is not appropriate for the frail elderly, disabled or very small children.
