ACTIVITIES

Two-wheeled power is the most flexible way to explore Rottnest Island.

Ride the easy-going island terrain with your own bike (which you can bring with you on the ferry) or hire one from Pedal & Flipper, which has a huge range to choose from.

Cycling the entire island can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours depending on your sight-seeing, beach-dipping and quokka-snapping agenda, but there are plenty of bike trails to follow, so we suggest just jumping on your bike and moving forward. You won’t regret taking the short climb up to the Wadjemup Lighthouse for spectacular ocean views

ENVIRONMENT

Discovery Rottnest Island is the first accommodation development on the island in over 30 years; a privilege we don’t take lightly.

The property has been designed to complement the idyllic coastal setting, strengthen the precious sand dunes and provide improved beach access.

We recognise the special place the island – and Pinky Beach – hold in the heart of West Australians, and strive to honour this connection.

Treading lightly

By their very nature eco-tents have minimal impact on their surrounding environment and are made from sustainable materials. They are designed for natural airflow (without air conditioning), using natural woods and canvas.

A revegetation plan ensures that we continue to enrich the flora and fauna of our surrounds. We have remediated the waste water treatment pond, and reinforced sand dunes on what was previously an environmentally vulnerable area of Island.

The property relies upon the existing eco-accredited energy, water and waste resources on the island, facilitated by the Rottnest Island Authority.

We’re local

Importantly, Discovery – Rottnest Island has been developed by locals. Local architects, project consultants, builders and employees.

We appreciate that the Island belongs to West Australians and showcase the history, culture and natural assets of the island for all to enjoy. We’re about sharing the story that is Rottnest Island.

Sounding Good?  Read on…

83 safari-style eco-tents create a glamping experience with million dollar sunset views and the chance to wake up to the sound of waves just metres from your door.

You can also get close to nature by meeting the friendliest Rottnest locals, aka the island’s unique population of quokka’s, the cutest little macropods you’ve ever seen.

Constructed in 1896, Wadjemup Lighthouse stands at the highest point of Rottnest Island. A visit here is well worth the effort as you’ll be rewarded with uninterrupted views of the city of Perth, which by now will be feeling like a faraway distant memory. At approximately 38 metres high, the lighthouse is the fourth tallest in Australia and replaced the original 20-metre structure that was built in 1849.
