THE ENVIRONMENT

From The Bower at Broulee:

  • From inception, Mark and Sue have always been committed to preserving the environmental assets of The Bower along with those of the neighbouring Illawong Nature Reserve and Candlagan Creek. They purchased approx 80 ha [220 acres] of land, in 1992 for a nature based resort development.
  • DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION:  The architect designed buildings were built for function as well as aesthetics and a considerable investment was made to implement contemporary passive solar principles in their design and construction.
  • NATURE WALKS:  In 2000, the owners dedicated 8 hectares of land along the creek foreshore as a public reserve and in 2004 they confirmed the status of the entire property as a Wildlife Refuge with NPWS. The creek is now also protected as a sanctuary zone as part of the Batemans Marine Park. While some 3,000 seedlings have been planted in Stage 1 of the re-vegetation program, the challenge has been to cost justify the ongoing commitment to that aim and make the continuing maintenance of the environment, facilities and enabled guest activities such as “guided nature walks” commercially viable.
  • Aug 2017: We’ve now installed a Destination charger (3 phase) for our guests to the South Coast with electric cars.
