What we love..
Nestled in a pocket of Darling Harbour rich in industrial and working-class heritage, this boutique hotel is built within a 130-year-old former wool store, and its beautiful bones are on display, original brick walls, with rough-hewn beams, pipes and even an exposed lift shaft. Guests can look up from the light filled atrium to see the original wooden beams of the building which have been carefully restored.

The Woolstore 1888 by Ovolo has a prime position in the inner-city suburb of Pyrmont, a short walk from Darling Harbour, Chinatown and some of the city’s best bars and restaurants.
The 90 rooms and suites have exposed brick walls, contemporary furnishings and vibrant red, yellow and blue. All rooms feature unpainted beams, pillars, and bricks, ironwork along the ceiling, and small windows. Even the desks are crafted from materials from the original building, but the décor and furniture are ultra-chic, with brightly-painted walls, dangling bulbs for lamps, and a desk loaded with state-of-the-art gadgets. The colourful artworks and oversized screen prints are by Aussie Jasper Knight.
The aptly-named Shoebox room is compact at 15 square metres and has an internal window. King Rooms are 35 square metres, the split-level Loft is spacious, and the Junior Suite is especially colourful. The Top-tier suites Shaken and Stirred feature a cocktail bar and rooftop patio respectively.
The lobby is a buzzing atrium, housing reception and the in-house bar and restaurant Lo Lounge. Quirky artefacts pepper the walls and surfaces; the entryway is lined with silver eggs, or ‘ovo’, the Ovolo Group’s signature emblem.
The hotel has a commitment to sustainable dining, and the Italian restaurant is wholly vegetarian.
