The Inchcolm by Ovolo is a boutique hotel situated in the serene suburb of Spring Hill in Brisbane.
The hotel’s central location is within walking distance of some of the city’s main attractions including Brisbane River, iconic Story Bridge, the bustling Howard Smith Wharves and Eagle Street Pier. The neo-Georgian design with an edge pays homage to the building’s time of prestige and resident physicians, with subtle hints of musical undertones and an air of rhapsody.
According to the hotel, the Inchcolm was constructed in 1880 by Dr John Thomson, a pioneering surgeon, and then redeveloped 20 years later into a medical practice where Dr Thompson treated the likes of patients such as General Douglas MacArthur, the American General who came to Brisbane to take command of the Pacific War against the Japanese.
Dr Thompson and his socialite wife Marie Jean would welcome their patients into their practice and home in truly 20’s fashion, with generous helpings of swing jazz and sweet vermouth. The history is deeply ingrained within its walls today, and the team are more than happy to share famous tales of the hotel’s history.
Celebrate the stories with the signature Martini hour – a unique experience in the Inchcolm Bar as a tribute to Marie Jean Thomson. With five martinis to choose from, Martini Hour is from 5pm-6pm daily. Â Dining is also available at the Inchcolm Bar, wuth menu items such as Moreton Bay Bug Tagliarini, a classic eye fillet with silky Paris mash, or BBQ spatchcock.
