ENVIRONMENT
From the Owner:
“It starts of course with good design and crafting our accommodation for best natural airflow and maximum insulation. It results in better, natural temperature control and less need for aircon.
We’re solar-powered. We’ve made a substantial investment in carbon offsetting our hotel with 132 solar panels generating nearly 37KW per hour during peak sunlight. So in daylight hours, we’re offsetting a significant amount of electricity preventing tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere. Last quarter we sent 4000kilowatt hours of electricity back to the grid for others to use. You can sit in your air-conditioned room (if you haven’t got the windows wide open) or swim in the heated pool guilt-free with the knowledge that the energy you’re consuming is coming straight from the sun.
LED lighting is our choice where possible to keep energy use lower.
We source as many sustainable, recycled products as possible to incorporate into our designs. This has actually become one of the benchmarks of our signature style.
We love to support like-minded businesses such as Dharma Door whose commitment to sustainable, ethical production of their home décor products is absolute.
We request the environmental credentials from our suppliers
We use filtered water in refillable glass jugs for our guests
Poolside we’ve installed a Zip tap and have metal cups for refills
Where possible, we chose to have can options in our gourmet mini-bar rather than glass or plastic. Cans take less energy to recycle.
We’ve just swapped from using beautiful Kevin Murphy single-use minis to using Kevin Murphy refillable shampoo / conditioner / body soap / lotion.
We’re using less paper by choosing to go digital with check in forms, cleaning checklists, mini bar check lists and more.
We use organic, locally produced cleaning products.
We contract to a local, environmentally friendly linen hire company.
We’re offering services for the rooms (refreshing bed sheets and towels) as an opt-in every day rather than providing them automatically.
There are biodegradable garbage bags throughout.
We only use sustainable loo paper.
We offer bikes as transport for our guests with baskets too so they can buy the freshest, organic produce from the many local markets or take a picnic to the beach.
We bank with an enviro-conscious bank (yes they do exist) and any investment options we assess need to have an environmental impact conscious as well.”
What we love…

The crisp white interiors and outdoor bathrooms offer luxurious and sustainable comfort, while the beautifully styled rooms surrounded by lush greenery make for the perfect location to unwind in style.

What a fabulous idea….upcycle an old 1970s roadside motel and give it an ultra stylish boho-glam treatment. The Bower is inspired by a blend of New York’s urban-boutique hotel scene and Byron’s low-key, beach-chic lifestyle. It’s the latest in a line of exquisite design-led properties from Taliah and Sein Lowry’s Byron Beach Abodes, which specialises in upcycling interesting old buildings.
The Bower at Byron is set on one acre of tropical gardens surrounded by a variety of fruit trees such as Mango, Guava, Feijoa, Fig, Citrus, and Stone fruit. Kids and adults alike can enjoy the large grassy area or explore the fruit trees or just hang out under one of our covered outdoor settings. The Bower is a 1km walk south of Byron Bay’s centre. It’s a 20-minute stroll north through town to Main and Belongil Beaches, or a (mostly) scenic one-hour hike northeast to Byron’s spectacularly positioned lighthouse. Beautiful and deserted Tallow Beach lies to the east.
