ACTIVITIES

The Great Western Tiers provides a wide range of walking opportunities for guests. Walk from the door into pristine rainforest during a 2 hour walk from the Lodge or drive to the base of the Tiers and ascend into the alpine wilderness areas on top. There are walks for children, octogenarians and adventure seekers. Two of Tasmania’s most visited waterfalls are close by, Meander Falls and Liffey Falls.

An underground wonderland awaits the more adventurous. The western end of the Tiers contains an elaborate system of limestone caves and underground streams. Tours are available.

The streams in the valley of Jackeys Marsh contain brown trout and plenty of opportunity for experienced fishermen and women to try their skills. There are also larger rivers and lakes within a short drive.

Sounding Good?  Read on…

Forest Walks Lodge is a short 1 hour drive from Launceston and Devonport airports and a handy stop on the way to or from the spirit of Tasmania. It is located on the Great Western Tiers just south of Deloraine in central Tasmania, halfway between Hobart and Cradle Mountain.

Meals are hand prepared for guests every evening with fresh vegetables straight from the garden and locally sourced meat, fish, cheese and eggs. The lodge preserves fruit in season for deserts, thus ensuring full flavour. Local venison, organic lamb, free range pork, fresh wasabi and truffles are also on the menu according to season.

The walking lodge Tasmania is situated in the valley of Jackeys Marsh which has played a significant role in the history of Tasmania from prehistoric times to the present. The valley was used by Tasmania’s first people for thousands of years as a travel route between the lowland plains and central plateau. This route was replicated later by English and Irish settlers taking their stock to the highlands for summer grazing. You too can follow the same trail today.
