SOURCING LOCAL PRODUCE
Buying local helps to reduce the carbon footprint and food mileage of Tamarind, which is remote to begin with. Additionally, it supports the local farmers, jobs, and community.
VEGETABLE GARDEN
Tamarinds onsite veggie garden ensures our guests receive the freshest ingredients in our farm to table mentality. It keeps our menus interesting with our chefs creating specialty dishes featuring the seasonal vegetables and fruits.
ONSITE COMPOSTING
At Spicers Tamarind we have a compost onsite to keep nutrients in the loop and to help support our onsite veggie garden.
CONTAINER FOR CHANGE
Our partnership with Scouts Recycling was launched in November 2018 with the inception of the Container for Change introduction into Queensland. This has allowed us to divert cans, bottles & containers from landfill and add value back to our community through the Scouts program.
BOTTLES INTO SAND
Spicers Tamarind Retreat works with Enviro Sand to recover glass waste such as wine and spirit bottles that previously were destined for landfill. The crushed glass is converted into a valuable glass powder that is later used for building material and kitchen bench tops. This allows us to close the loop on our waste, assist to build a circular economy and assist the building industry to create a sustainable future.
RAINWATER CATCHMENT
Where we are located, we are known as ‘Rainy Maleny’ so we use rainwater tanks to capture the abundance of rain drops nature gives us at the retreat. This helps maintain our beautiful lush gardens and lawns. We also use our grey water to irrigate our surrounding greenery on hot summers days.
