TWELVE APOSTLES WALKING LODGE

Great Ocean Road Walking Lodge

THE WALK
The 12 Apostles Lodge Walk is a 4-day exclusive guided walk, capturing the second section of the Great Ocean Walk. Heading west from Castle Cove to the Twelve Apostles, you’ll cover 40-56 kilometres (dependent on extra endurance options) on this multi-day trek, concluding with a helicopter flight over the Apostles.
Despite its well carved path, there’s every chance to become lost. Lost in yourself, lost in the discreet detail of a wildflower, lost in the stories of shipwrecked hopes. Draw close to tempestuous Bass Strait, then retreat to the emerald tones of deep rainforest. Stand on the edge then cool off in the Gellibrand River. Invent your own experience.
Each evening, retreat to the haven that is The 12 Apostles Lodge where your in-house chef has been busily prepping the nightly menu. Curl up with a book, meet new friends with feet cosy in uniform foot spas and gather round the guide’s map to learn of tomorrow’s quest.
They say it’s about the journey not the destination. But on the Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk the journey is rivalled by its destination. This is what adds a sense of anticipation to the trek. Every step draws nearer to those iconic limestone stacks. It’s only when you finally make it, that you’ll understand every kilometre formed a chapter of your 12 Apostles story.
LODGE FEATURES
Five generous bedrooms can be converted to twin share or two single rooms depending on group requirements – all enjoying access to private en suite bathrooms.
The dining room has a lounge area well-suited for canapes when the fire pit isn’t crackling with friend-huddling flames. After a glass of regional red, move to the long table for your nightly two-course regional menu.
Onsite you’ll also find 24-hour tea and coffee facilities, gear drying room, daily newspapers and a lodge library well stocked with magazines, reference and fictional books. Ask about the lodge property walks, or wander the boutique shop. You’re not alone if you don’t stray far from the foot spa and dining table though!
THE ENVIRONMENT

“We are proud to have achieved our Advanced Eco Accreditation in 2013.

The architecturally-designed lodge has been crafted with environmental sensitivity in mind. This translates to passive solar design, hydronic heating, low consumption electric and water fittings, on site waste water treatment and composting, plus a self-sufficient water supply. And there’s reason this eco-development is award-winning, delivering modern comforts with equal rigour. Expect Myrtle & Moss toiletries, hair dryers, library, mobile coverage (Telstra only) and limited wireless internet.

We take sustainable travel seriously and strive to incorporate sustainable travel practices into all aspects of our business.

We follow best practice track guidelines on our walks. We follow designated trails and remove all waste from our huts, camps and lodge and recycle wherever possible. We ensure our guidelines are up-to-date by working closely with National Parks and Wildlife Services.

When it comes to best environmental practice we are seen as leaders within our industry. We continually monitor current best practice to ensure we are keeping up to date.

We encourage our guests to become engaged with the natural surroundings. This leads to a strong sense of ownership and custodianship of our wild places.”

THE WALKS

Great Ocean Walk (Long Weekend)

  • 3 DAYS
  • GRADE: EASIER

Tight on time but want to get away? The Twelve Apostles Long Weekend walk is designed for you. Its grade is easier, yet they pack in plenty of coastal adventure. From Melbourne’s CBD, in no time you’ll be enjoying morning tea at the eco-lodge before lacing up for a walk from Castle Cove to Johanna Beach. That’s right, city streets by morning and salty wind in your hair by arvo.

Each late afternoon you will retreat back to the lodge where foot spas are filled, a communal fire flickers and the onsite chef whips up your gourmet meal. Day Two is the biggest walking day from Moonlight Head to Princetown, so go on and take that river dip at the end. On the last day, walk beneath the Apostles and fly high above them before we zip you back to the city.

Prices from $1,795 pp

Great Ocean Walk (Signature)

  • 4 DAYS
  • GRADE: MODERATE

It doesn’t take long for the city sounds to fade on the four-day Twelve Apostles escape. In no time, find yourself sipping tea in the eco-lodge. You will then hit the trail at Castle Cove, weaving through grass tree forest before dropping down to Johanna Beach. Bare feet are encouraged!

Each evening you will retreat for chatter around the fire and sumptuous meals. Day two is the most challenging; Milanesia Track to Moonlight Head. Raw and wild, you venture through remote areas of the Great Ocean Walk, knowing a foot spa awaits at the day’s end. By day three, you’ll know shipwrecks by name. The final day is all about those glorious Apostles – walk beneath them and fly above them by chopper. You’ve made it!

Prices from $2,295 pp
