ENVIRONMENT
From the Owners:
“Aquila operates under a covenant and is committed to preserving its 100 acres of bushland in its natural state.
The Trust for Nature (TFN) regional coordinators undertake regular stewardship inspections to ensure that the covenant is being respected.
Accredited by Eco Tourism Australia, Aquila is a regional retreat, that has been purposely built and runs in line with principles of sustainable living, aiming for minimal impact on the environment.
Surrounding the treehouses is flora and fauna that have been surveyed by Trust for Nature and includes many species unique to the Grampians National Park.
Aquila embodies a modern architectural design inspired by the natural world. Featuring passive heating and cooling properties, treehouse materials have been carefully selected for their sensitivity to the environment and fire considerations, whilst enhancing an environmentally conscious living experience.
Operating Aquila
Energy: With no networked energy sources linked to the Aquila properties, we have selected low-wattage appliances, solar energy capture across 48 batteries and have a generator on-site for backup. Solar power reduces greenhouse gas emissions, avoids power infrastructure, and negates the need for extensive excavations on the land.
Water: Our water is collected on-site, completely safe to drink, stored for everyday use, and reserved for firefighting. Whether you enjoy a cold glass of still water or a warm cup of espresso, our rainwater purification system ensures that your beverage is made with only the purest water possible.
Waste: Our worms do the heavy lifting to break down waste, whilst meeting the highest accommodation and health standards. We sort recyclable waste on-site and have a complete composting system for food waste, and black and grey water.
Community: Our community extends from our guests to the local region to the animals and the flora and fauna surrounding Aquila. We employ locally, and where possible continue to engage with local suppliers from the Grampians region. We celebrate our revegetation program by planting indigenous plants, and have identified, catalogued, and protected the Grampians National Parks’ unique and endangered orchids.”
