ENVIRONMENT
From the owners:
The ultra-modern modular building operated entirely off-grid, creating its own power, collecting its own rainwater, and disposing of its own waste, and the combination of spotted gum cladding, steel-framed decking and limestone sourced from the property has created a naturally blended palette of materials that allows the accommodation to sit comfortably within its environment.
The architecturally designed environmentally sensitive construction brings the ‘outside in’. The walls, ceilings and floors are all insulated and the entire north facing wall has floor to ceiling double glazed doors with panoramic views of the native vegetation.
The Wetlands
As part of Willalooka Pastoral Company’s integrated approach to modern, sustainable farming the wetland precinct covers over 2000 acres (810 Ha), it comprises of eight connecting wetlands, which are part of the Marcollat Watercourse.
This area has either been resown to native vegetation or is naturally generating. A series of weirs have been built to recreate natural flows through the wetland precinct. This regeneration project is one of the largest and most significant in South Australia. The planning and implementation of the project has been done in conjunction with the Department of Environment & Heritage and the Department for Water, Land & Biodiversity conservation, various independent environmental consultants and Banrock Station.
